Initialized team
Hello, Data Geek.
Today, I will be very quick: Just apply to be part of Initialized.
They are openly looking for a new partner for the firm. So, this is a once-in-a-lifetime to be part of one of the most prolific Venture Capital firms of our time.
First things, first: What is Initialized?
The best way to show this is to share all the numbers behind the firm:
$3.2 Billion Assets Under Management
They have raised a total of 8 funds, where the last one was very significant: $700 Million divided into two funds
$200 Billion in created value
175+ active companies in the portfolio
119 diversity investments
28 companies have reached the Unicorn status
87 Exits: More notable exits? Coinbase, Reddit, Opendoor, Slack
Let’s dissect the job description
Reading the job description is basically: a great networker who loves to work directly with founders from 0 to 1, an investor (obvious, right?), and a good writer (Good Writing is equal to Clarity).
Initialized is very open about pay transparency; so they shared the salary range for this position: $400,000 to $650,000 USD for the base. This range doesn’t include carried interest or bonus.
Let’s discuss 2 approach on how to approach this job application (THE REAL MEAT)
The first approach is very simple: find an interesting company to invest in in unconventional places, and write an investing memo about it.
Some unconventional places?
Hampton, the new company created by Sam Parr is a great place for it. Great examples? Varuna, Triple Whale, Social Curator
Tim Ferris’s blog. Examples? Airalo
Looking at unconventional places could result in finding hidden gems there.
Now, once you select a company, write a compelling memo on why Initialized should invest in the company.
Share this as the Cover Letter in your job application.
The second approach is a little different: think of a big problem today that needs to be solved at a global scale, study the industry and trends, find the top 10 companies who are actively working on it, and fund it.
A quick example of this?
Global problem: Global Pollution by PFAS.
Problem definition: For those who don’t know: Per- and poly-fluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are a large class of human-made compounds that are designed to resist heat, chemical degradation, mechanical wear, and repel water, oil, etc. These types of chemicals are known as “forever chemicals”. BTW: 3M is being suited for exactly that
Interesting company in the space: Good Chemistry
That’s it, my friend.
Take the courage and apply today.
Good luck
