Hello, Data Geek.
Today, I want to do something different, thanks to a recommendation from one of you.
This issue won’t be focused on a particular open position, but on some resources that will help you advance your career in Data Analytics.
From online courses to online bootcamps, this will cement your knowledge if you are an experienced professional in the field, and it will revamp your skills if you are starting.
This won’t be focused on a single role here. The idea is to share a very diverse group of resources that could be helpful for Data Engineers, Data Scientists, Data Analytics, Business Intelligence Engineers, Data Visualization experts, and much more.
Enough from me now.
Let’s share the resources.
The selling point here is very simple: You will have the chance to learn from one of the best professionals in the Data Engineering space.
Zach has created a very interesting format for this bootcamp by putting a real emphasis on real-world scenarios and skills that definitely you will use as a Data Engineer like Dimensional Data Modeling, Apache Spark, Scala, Scheduling, and much more.
But the big takeaway here is: Focus on the fundamentals first: The tools change every single day, but the fundamentals always will be there.
Highly recommended for experienced Data Engineers.
Disclaimer: This is not a beginner course. You need real experience to take advantage of this course.
Format: Cohort
Duration: 6 weeks
Cost: $900 USD. Again: it’s not for everyone, but there are some good gems inside the Discord community as well. You can join here.
If you need a review for it, you can read this post from Scott DeGeest
According to its definition: DataOps is an Agile approach to designing, implementing, and maintaining a distributed data architecture that will support a wide range of open-source tools and frameworks in production. The goal of DataOps is to create business value from big data.
But the theory is one thing and the practice is another one.
With this course from Sarah, you will use an actual example of how to do DataOps in a production environment.
Description
The Practical DataOps course aims to equip students with the skills and expertise required to effectively create and deploy data projects in a production setting.
Format: Online video course
Cost: $60USD
dbt has become a very popular tool in the Data Engineering space, so a practical course like this one could be very helpful for your career.
Description
dbt is a SQL-first transformation workflow. The tool makes it easy to transform, test, and document your data with ease. Another big plus: your team can work directly within the warehouse to create trusted datasets for reporting, machine learning modeling, and operational workflows. Therefore, dbt is definitely a tool that you should look into as a data engineer. And this training is the perfect starting point for doing so!
Format: Online video course
Cost: $264 for 12 months of access to the Data Engineering Academy, $480 for Unlimited access
Jump Into Data Science in Python, by Dr. Elena Tej Grewal (ex-Head of Data Science at Airbnb) and Sarah McGowan (ex-Bain Consultant)
Elena is a former Head of Data Science at Airbnb, where Machine Learning and Data Science have made a huge impact on the business, and Sarah was a Data Science consultant at Bain.
Both of them have an extensive experience in this field, so a cohort course with them is a terrific way to learn directly from them.
Description
Stop clicking through Excel and start comfortably coding in Python with this live cohort-based course brought to you by Yale Faculty.
Format: Cohort
Duration: 3 weeks
Cost: $890
Data Visualization is a key aspect of the Data Analytics space, and Tableau has become one of the standard tools for it.
Nicole’s experience here can help you to understand the nuances of Data Visualization, especially when to use it, and which are the best type of graphics to use for a particular problem (one of the most common problems when people start working with it.)
Description
Learn the gold standard data analysis and visualization software from a successful Tableau developer and Tableau Ambassador.
Format: Cohort
Duration: 6 weeks
Cost: $499
The first time I heard the “Data Storytelling” term, I fell in love with it. From my perspective, this is a skill that everyone in the Data field must master.
Why? Because you can have all the best datasets in the world: if you can’t present it in a clear and concise way, this could be a waste.
So, Evelina is doing an incredible job here with this cohort course.
Description
Learn how to turn data into narratives that inspire action.
Duration: 2 weeks
Format: Cohort
Cost: 499 Euros
If you are a Data Scientist today or you are aspiring to become one in the future, you must follow the work of Daliana.
She is constantly sharing a lot of practical tips about how to advance in your career as a Data Scientist, but if you truly analyze her strategy, this could be translated to any role in the Data Analytics field.
This cohort course is not an exception.
Description
Want to build influence, show impact, and "sell" your projects? Learn the strategies I used to get a promotion and find your own path.
Format: Cohort
Cost: $300
